From a childhood love of Legos and anything that had to do with medieval knights, Alan first started (badly) painting miniatures in 1993 with the HeroQuest board game. After not picking up a brush for the next several years, he rediscovered the hobby in 1998 when he bought some Warhammer Fantasy models to create a chess set. But after demoing a game of WFB, he went “all in” and never looked back. His favorite part of painting is the challenge of learning new things and the “meditative” state it puts him in. When Alan is painting, the rest of the world disappears.
Over his 20 or so years of painting, Alan has won four U.S. Golden Demons, Master Craftsman awards at The Las Vegas Open and West Coast Store Wars, and numerous painting awards at smaller events. He has been known by several aliases, including Arizona_Troll and Gorilla with a Brush. His favorite models to paint are non-human creatures like orcs and trolls or anything with a cloak or banner where he can practice freehand patterns.
Alan found the NOCF through Eric Fontaine’s advertisements on social media. After looking into the organization, Alan jumped at the chance to take part in their efforts. Alan has long been interested in charitable contributions and currently devotes a portion of all of his own commissions and model sales to animal shelters and pet adoption charities.
